Are you interested in gardening with recycled materials? If so, you are not alone. This is a growing trend throughout many parts of the world, as more and more people become interested in the environment.

On the surface, it is easy to think that everything you do in your garden is good for the environment around you. Of course, nothing could be further from the truth. You truly need to pay attention to what you are doing, ensuring that you have the best interest of both your garden and the environment in mind.

When it comes time to garden with recycled materials there are several things that you should keep in mind. Although everybody is different, here are a few ideas that will allow you to get started:

1. Don’t buy planters at the store, instead make them out of recycled objects. Did you know that old coffee cans, rubber boots, or wooden barrels can make for the perfect planter? Not to mention the fact that it will look more unique than anything that you can buy locally.

2. Use recycled brick when edging your garden or a path in your yard. You may be surprised to find that there are many people in your area willing to give you bricks for free. Join a freecycling network in your area and you will be well on your way.

3. Make a rain barrel out of an old food barrel. This is a great way to collect rainwater without spending a lot of money or buying a barrel intended only for this purchase.

Now that you have a few ideas for gardening with recycled materials, you have to consider one other detail: there are some materials that you never want to use in your garden. Some of these include:

·         Old tires – these often times leak chemicals into the ground

·         A barrel that previously contained any sort of fuel, such as oil

·         Wood that may contain lead paint

The Time is Now

For many months, you may have been thinking about upgrading the overall look and functionality of your garden. What are you waiting for? The time is now. With recycled materials, you do not have to spend any money in order to get started. Instead, you can make upgrades for free. Not to mention the fact that you are also doing the right thing in terms of saving the environment.

Need More Help?

Don’t be shy about asking your neighbors for gardening advice. This is particularly true if you know that they have knowledge pertaining to using recycled materials. There is no better way to learn. Of course, you can also share some of your own knowledge at the same time.

With these tips in mind, gardening with recycled materials should be something that you find simple yet exciting. No matter the size of your garden or what you grow in it, the benefits of using recycled items is something you never want to overlook. Do something good for your home and the environment!
