What is Freecycling and Why is it so Common?

Over the past few years, freecycling has become more and more popular. In fact, there are more than 10 million people worldwide who belong to groups that support this cause. In short, freecycling is the act of giving away items that you no longer need as opposed to throwing them in the trash.

Note: freecycling is often times known as free recycling.

If you are interested in getting involved with freecycling, you are not alone. Every day, many people decide that this is something they are going to do. They are looking for a way to help others as well as the environment, and they have decided that this is the best way to move forward.

As noted above, freecycling is supported by millions of people all over the world. If you are interested in getting involved, all you have to do is find a local group. From there, you can learn more while also beginning to freecycle any unwanted items that may be in your possession.

Environmental Impact

The main advantage of freecycling is the way that it helps keep trash out of the world’s landfills. In fact, it has been suggested that this movement has helped keep more than 500 million tons of trash from landfills over the past 5 to 7 years. As you can imagine, this is a huge environmental benefit.

Meet Others with Similar Interests

It goes without saying that you are not the only person in your area that is interested in freecycling. Wouldn’t it be great to meet others who share the same beliefs as you? When you join a freecycling group in your area, you can get in touch with many people who are in the same position as you.

When you belong to a freecycling group, you are in position to not only give items to others but to request those that you may need. So, you are doing more than just helping the environment. You are also helping other people who may not have the money or resources to buy particular items.

Of course, with this you are also able to save money yourself. Why buy brand new items at your local store when you can reach out to your freecycling group to see if something is available? This is a great way to get what you want, free of cost.

The freecycling movement is alive and well. More and more people are getting involved with this as a means of saving the environment, helping others, and keeping money in their own pocket.

With so many benefits, it is easy to see why freecycling has become so common all over the world.

If you are not sure if this is right for you, ask and answer this question: what benefit do you get from adding your trash to a landfill?

The old saying holds true: one person’s trash may be another’s treasure. This one statement shows why freecycling is picking up a lot of momentum.
